A mighty river and a mighty job

A cold, wet day is not exactly perfect for whitewater rafting, but we were determined to make the most of it. Much to our surprise, by the time we were floating down the Ocoee River the sun was shining and those "splash jackets" weren't as important as when we began. Everyone got the hang of the rafting business pretty quickly, and we worked hard to tame the river and return to the hot lunch that awaited us.

After showering and changing clothes, we headed straight to our next worksite: the warehouse used by the United Way for their "gifts in kind" program. They had just received a huge shipment from Dell, and needed our help to sort the donations, clean and organize the warehouse, and help their various agency representatives load these big boxes into their cars. Everyone was thrilled to have us there, since the United Way coordinates volunteers for other agencies and rarely gets any to help at their own facilities.

We left the United Way and stopped by the church to shower and change, then headed back into downtown Chattanooga for barbecue at Sticky Fingers (that's right, Memphis style BBQ at a South Carolina-based chain in Chattanooga). We got our exercise afterward, walking across the pedestrian bridge over the Tennessee River to the park and shops on the other side. After some tasty ice cream and silliness in the fountains, we made our way back to the church for our devotional and some pre-departure packing.
